Website Development
You can build a website for next to nothing. You can get a free website builder included with most larger scale hosting companies, and build a website with a couple of pages in next to no time. This will get you some text and images on a page that looks like something a child created. If you found my site, then you are probably getting beyond this in terms of both looks and functionality and are ready to create a professional website.
When building a website, you need to consider the website design and website functionality. The website design is what you see - how the website looks. Website functionality is what a website "does". My programming skills mainly focus on the website functionality and of website development. You can't actually see my work, you see it function.
Here are some examples of website functionality that I have coded.- Create web forms that can do simple functions like send email and complex web forms that do things like upload files, calculate formulas and/or take payments online
- Create member registration systems to enable users to log in to access data
- Build an online store for you to sell products online
- Optimize your website code so you rank higher in the search engines (SEO)
In the course of my career I've built websites from simple 1-page "brochure" sites to full-scale, complex e-commerce websites. See my development history below.
I work along side web designers to build website functionality into their design. I will work with your web designer, or if you do not have one, I can recommend colleagues that I have partnered with.
Experience
Over the course of my career I've built websites for companies in various industries ranging from the automovite to educational to online retail. Some of my professional website experience includes full-time positions at:
Freelance
- Trend Events, Inc. - A DJ and Entertainment company
2017-Present - NRG Energy, Inc
At NRG I'm an Application Developer.
Some of the websites and varieties that I was responsible for include:
- NRG Home Power - Residential Retail Site
- EnergyPlus - Subsidiary Residential Retail Site
2011-2017 - The American College of Financial Services
At The American College, I was a Senior Software Engineer. I worked closely with the Marketing team build and maintain sites around the Drupal or ExpressionEngine Content Management Systems. I do end-to-end development, from building out the sites to implementing the back-end features.
Some of the websites and varieties that I was responsible for include:
- The American College - Main Site
- ChFC® - Brochure Site
- New York Life Center for Retirement Income - a Center of Excellence Site
- Northwestern Mutual Granum Center for Financial Security - another Center of Excellence Site
- One Person Donation Campaign
2010-2011 - EZ-Tees, LLC
At EZ-Tees I worked with the graphics team on redesigns of their websites. I developed the catalog store-front capabilities. I was also integral in developing the "Design Online" functionality, particularly the "Add Art Browser" (Example here).
2007-2008 - GSI Commerce (now eBay Enterprise)
I worked with designers to build complete websites as well as maintaining and adding new functionality for many large retail companies, including:
- Christopher & Banks/CJ Banks
- Charlotte Russe
- Speedo
- NFL Shop
- Dick's Sporting Goods
- ... and many more
Some of the functionality I helped create while at GSI was the initial versions of the "Express Shop" feature (Example here, mouse-over a specific shirt) as well as work with the Wishlist and Cart processes.
I was also involved in beginning the migration from pure JSP towards JSF and an MVC framework
2005-2007 - HomeNet Automotive
I worked with designers to build complete websites for about 20 automotive dealerships. Funcationality ranged from purely informational to ability to search and vehicle-specific calls-to-action functionality (Value My Trade, loan pre-approval, payment calculators and live chat)
The vehicle search functionality was able to be "wrapped" into already existing website if a dealer already had a website, but wanted to expand their capabilities to search and view inventory. An overview of this system can be found on here
